Sermon Series: 40 Days of Prayer

“Lord, I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds, Lord. Repeat them in our day, in our time     

             make them known; in wrath remember mercy.”   – Habakkuk 3:2

 

Jesus makes the subject of prayer a primary part of the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew chapters 5-7.  He says, “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”    Therefore, prayer is a private matter between you and God – it’s not for a religious show.   

But let me ask you, “How’s your prayer life?”  Could your connection and communication with God use a boost?  It would feel arrogant to answer this with a flat “No”, but in a way I hope you can say that – meaning you are very confident and satisfied with your prayer life!  However, I also know it’s a place we can struggle and also a place we need encouragement and guidance.  Whatever mindset concerning prayer you find yourself today, I hope you will dig in for the next 40 days leading up to Easter and find support and encouragement in your communication with your Heavenly Father.
