“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.”
- 2 Philippians 4:4-5
Could it be true that being defensive brings out the worst in everyone? It seems to me that when we consider the saying, “Hurt people, hurt people” we are reminded that when people feel attacked (and hurt) it is the most natural thing to attack back. However, the question might be, “How is this working for you?”
This Sunday we consider the character trait of “Gentleness” and its synonyms “humility” and “meekness” - that ability to not lash out when hurt and to not just do what seems natural and feels good in the moment. Gentleness is a superpower. And it is seen in fullness when we consider the character of Christ.
