"I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” "I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me.”
- John 10:11, 14
Someone recently posted a video on Facebook of a sheep attacking a shepherd. It seems too extreme to actually be real – it might be from a dark comedy movie of some sort. But in this clip the sheep turns and rams the shepherd and then comes back and does it again and just lays the shepherd out cold. It made me think about the biblical image of Christ as “The Good Shepherd”.
Jesus does say, “I am the good shepherd”; how is he treated by his sheep? Are we biting the hand that feeds us? Are we prone to wander? And, are there times we actually attack our Good Shepherd? But there is so much comfort and guidance when we fully embrace this relationship - because every sheep fares far better with a good shepherd.
