“Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.””
- John 14:6
One academy award winning actress received her award and said this in her speech, “We are the only profession that celebrates how to live a life.” Viola Davis is by all accounts a wonderful actress and I actually found her entire speech to be inspiring. But this line was certainly met with a certain amount of criticism and skepticism – and deserving so. Though her attitude seemed fairly humble – these words came across as rather arrogant. Making it seem like actors are thinking a little more highly of themselves than might be merited.
But the deeper question that this statement propagates is how do we live a life? And what is the essence of a life well lived? Jesus offers some very striking statements about life. He calls himself the “Bread of Life”; “the way, the truth and the life” and “the resurrection and the life” – can we connect these statements made by Jesus to help us answer how to live a life?
