“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, ... Prince of Peace”
Shalom. You might be familiar with this traditional Jewish greeting. I believe it is still used today as it has for thousands of years. It is Hebrew for “I wish you peace”. Peace is the second of the four themes of Advent (Hope, Peace, Joy and Love) and like the others, it represents something everyone desires. Humans greatly desire peace: peace of mind, inner peace, peace in our homes, peace on our streets, peace between races, peace in the Middle East, peace instead of war, … peace is always a welcome goal. However, at times we ask at what cost?
Prophecy about Jesus gave him the title “Prince of Peace”. This title is a welcome ray of light for us this Christmas season – we need to know that Jesus came to lead us into peace. This Sunday at Morello Hills as we continue the Advent season of Christmas we will uncover the truths of how Jesus brings peace to our hearts and to our land.
